Onome Djere

Onome Djere is a drill sergeant in this introspection bootcamp called Forster-Thomas. She leaves no stone unturned and no potential untapped. She believes the process of cultivating a stellar essay is similar to writing poetry: using the raw materials of one's life, one's imagination, and a multi-faceted mirror to catch every conceivable angle until one sees, and seizes, an inspired moment.

Onome (pronounced as in "on a May" afternoon) is a poet, performance artist and vocalist whose work has been published in several anthologies. In 2008, she was formally recognized by the organization Poets and Writers as one of the best emerging poets under 30. She has participated in such writing programs as Cave Canem, LouderArts, The Griot Space, and Voices of Our Nation Arts Foundation. She has also conducted hundreds of youth and adult writing workshops in partnership with the New York Public Library, the Museum for African Art, Rikers Island and more.

Onome has been performing nationally in her collaborative performance piece I Am Another Yourself. She also performs her eclectic style of soul-infused music with her band. She has a degree in Liberal Arts from Sarah Lawrence College.
