Great college applicants are made from entire candidacies—not test scores, football teams, or weeklong trips to save the Rainforest.

GPA, SAT, or ACTs are one small part of the picture, and may seem out of your control. What you can control is the big picture—the experiences, the extracurriculars, and the way you communicate all of this to an admissions office. Great candidacies are an opportunity to communicate “the who you are,” not just a score you got. And this is what the modern-day admissions officer is looking for in this new era when standardized exams, and numbers in general, are taking a backseat to what it is in that makes a student unique, not “well-rounded.”

At the end of the day, a college admissions offer is as much about “fit” as it is about worthiness. Admissions officers not only want smart, proactive students, but students who match a particular college’s learning environment, community, and culture. Such students will flourish and eventually find the career that will not just be a dream, but the one that will result in value. Of course, to make all this happen, the key is making sure that the school a student loves, loves them, and understands why that student will be a value-add to their community.

That’s where Forster-Thomas comes in. We build candidacies that make admissions offices stand up and say, “Wow!” We’re not just educational consultants, we are creative coaches known for our ability to guide high school students in every aspect of their candidacies. And we’re not just talking about the merits of AP English over Honors English, or Habitat for Humanity over Outward Bound (rest assured we’re not just going to send your kid off into the woods with a twig and a match). Our focus in our private consulting—as well as in our extensive reach into college-bound programs throughout the community—is to help each and every one of our students navigate one of the most difficult times in their lives, helping them transform from that kid whom you had to remind to clean their room to one who understands what it means to be a leader, ready to take on college and the world beyond.

Forster-Thomas isn’t kidding. We’re not for everyone. We’re for students and parents who are serious about getting into the right school at the right time. We avoid old school “strategic candidacies” that serve to create the kiss of death: a “well-rounded” yet mundane application.

Forster-Thomas does what most don’t—we keep the edges in every student’s voice/candidacy, making each memorable and interesting—not the guy you think they are looking for. “That guy” has zero street cred in this game. Forster-Thomas helps every student find and keep his or her own voice/candidacy, with the highs and the lows, the ups and the downs, the good and, when necessary, the not-so-good. Because this is the student who will be remembered as someone comfortable in his or her own skin, who will be a leader or scholar of consequence.
